Ethel Ratsela: I am a mother of two, a wife, and a minister born in Ekurhuleni studied business management at Springs College. I’m a born again child of God. One day I got tired of doing 8 to 5. I felt stuck and there was no room for growth so I couldn’t picture myself being an employee for the rest of my life and I needed change.

Noxy Bancamile Mavundla: I’m 30 years old. I live in Richards Bay, KZN and run my own company, Bancamile Productions. It’s a Film/TV Production company and Business Enterprise. I was born and raised in Newcastle, KZN. I’m from a humble background. I grew up with my younger sister, raised by a strong and courageous single woman who has made sacrifices for us to have the best she could give us. I’m strong, brave, head strong and a hard worker. I have a lot of love in my heart. After matriculating from St Dominic’s Academy, my family and I relocated to Johannesburg. I studied Film Production and majored in Producing at a private college called AFDA (South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance)

As its Women’s month in South Africa I thought it an appropriate time to take stock of how us girls are doing in business. I’ve noticed that more of our clients are women, and am pleased to report that the General Manager of Carling Black Label – the largest beer brand (by volume) in South Africa – is a woman. So while its heartening to see how women in South Africa are climbing up the corporate ladder and taking their rightful place alongside men in business, I can’t help but wonder why – according to a year on year census conducted by the Business Women’s Association for the last 8 years – women are still underrepresented in business.
